Introduction
The aim of the programme is to train geographers who have advanced theoretical and applied geographic knowledge; they are able to analyze the spatial and temporal correlations of the natural, socio-economic and urban environment, to synthesize results, to gain knowledge in their academic field independently; having mastered the use of the field, laboratory, and IT devices software of modern geography; they are able to prepare decisions, to answer professional questions and to solve professional tasks. They are able to apply their basic geographic knowledge in the fields of nature and environment protection, governance, economics, statistics and tourism. They are prepared to continue their studies for a master's degree.
The programme consists of the following academic fields necessary for the qualification:
- Science, humanities and economics; geographic professional knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of science and social sciences (introductory courses in mathematics, physics, IT, biology, chemistry, European Union studies, economics, sociology, demography)
- Fundamentals of Earth Sciences (introductory courses in climate, cartography, geology)
- Fundamentals of geography (introductory courses in geomathematics, geoinformatics, geographical investigative and research methodology)
- Physical geography module (courses in geomorphology, internal forces, soil geography, biogeography, hydrogeography)
- Socio-geography module (population and urban geography, general economic geography courses)
- Regional geography module (courses in physical and social geography of Europe and Hungary)
In the regional and urban development specialization, the geographer becomes familiar with the basic interrelations and concepts of regional growth and development, urban research, urban development and municipal management. The geographer has methodological knowledge of the fundamentals of project planning and management. The geographer can be involved in the planning and decision-making processes at different levels of urban and regional development. The geographer is capable of situation analysis.
