This unique, fully online degree will equip you with industry-valued knowledge and skills in performance, composition, ear training, music theory, music technology and production, music history and music cultures. The program traverses a broad range of styles and genres across contemporary, classical, popular and electronic music. Study online
Most of our students choose to study online across three study periods with 24/7 tutor support* and fit study around work and family commitments. Uniquely, our online students are mostly over 30 and bring valuable experience with them. They form a community of adults juggling the same challenges and priorities and who bring their life and work experience together at UNE in order to become future-fit and better respond to a rapidly changing world.
24/7 tutor support includes: essay feedback (within 24 hours); live chat 24/7 for generic feedback on academic writing; and subject-specific help at a foundation or first-year level for subjects including mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, business, accounting, microeconomics, macroeconomics and statistics. There are also a wide range of workshops, resources and courses available in academic skills support to assist you and help you to succeed.

Course structure
Students enrolling in the Performance major will choose either Option A or B. Students choosing Option B must make arrangements with the Course Coordinator to undertake lessons at a UNE approved partner institution.
To qualify for the award a candidate must pass units to the value of 144 credit points including not more than 60 credit points at 100-level, at least 36 credit points at 300-level and not more than 12 credit points at 400-level.

Elective Units can be selected from any unit offered by the University subject to candidates meeting overall course requirements and prerequisite and timetabling requirements for individual units.
Program Outcome
- Demonstrate a broad and coherent knowledge of music from contemporary, historical, theoretical and practical perspectives;
- Present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of musical knowledge and ideas via musicology composition and performance practice;
- Critically evaluate music styles, periods and genres and apply this understanding to a variety of contexts;
- Demonstrate a broad and coherent understanding of music technology and its practical application across a variety of musical environments; and
- Construct a synthesis of different approaches to performance scholarship, composition, musicology and music technology through collaborative and individual research tasks while exercising critical thinking and judgement in identifying and solving problems with intellectual independence; and show responsibility and accountability for own learning and professional practice.
