The University of Hull was formed in 1927, making us the 14th oldest university in England. Teaching and Research Excellence

Hull earned a silver award in the Government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2018) which recognises excellence in teaching and learning in UK universities and colleges and specialises in a wide range of high-quality postgraduate taught courses and postgraduate research.

We’re in the top 50 universities for research power (REF 2014) and incredibly ambitious about our research agenda. We take on the big global challenges – from health to habitats, from food to flooding and from supply chains to slavery. Our seven research institutes bring together expertise from all corners of the university and our researchers work with key partners and stakeholders to deliver research that benefits everyone, and shapes and informs future policy.

With students from nearly 100 countries around the world choosing to study at Hull, we are a truly global institution. An impressive 93.9% of our graduates go into work or further study within 15 months of graduating (full-time first degree leavers, Higher Education Graduate Outcomes statistics, for the academic year 2019/20, published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency July 2022.

Campus and Student Life

We have invested £300 million on new facilities including a world-class library, a state-of-the-art 400-seater concert hall with industry-standard studio and recording equipment, on-campus student accommodation and new sports facilities. Here you will find everything you need to study, live and socialise - from versatile workspaces to an award-winning careers service – all on one site. Our student union is home to over 85 societies and sports clubs.

We are also the only university to be an Official Partner of Team GB. This exclusive six-year partnership will benefit our students by presenting opportunities for joint research and enterprise projects, and career-boosting opportunities.

Student Support

We want you to reach your full potential so we offer a variety of support during your time with us.

Each of our students is allocated a Personal Supervisor to meet throughout the year who give academic advice and are your first point of contact for feedback and guidance. Whilst our Student Services team provide advice on matters like health and wellbeing, visas and immigration, money and learning support – ensuring you get the most out of everything the university has to offer.

Our Student Futures team help you to be future-focused, encouraging and empowering individuals to develop skills key for employability as well as to make and implement well-informed decisions about their careers and continuing professional development. This includes opportunities such as internships and work placements. In recent years there have also been opportunities through our graduate internship programme.
