The Bachelor of Information Technology puts you at the heart of the field that is driving our world forward. Whether you want to be a software developer, design multimedia experiences, or develop smart systems for the future, this degree will give you the technical, analytical and creative skills to develop solutions, innovate and be successful in the information economy.
This degree is very flexible – you can undertake it online or on campus at our Gold Coast campus – at a pace that suits you. It also gives you an option to undertake a placement and gain hands-on experience working with industry, developing information technology responses to business dilemmas.
Graduates can anticipate career options across enormously diverse industries – demand for skilled IT staff is growing nationally and globally.
Career Opportunities
As programmers, user-experience designers and developers, systems analysts, software engineers, database administrators, project managers, web developers, systems administrators and technical support personnel.
Professional Placement
Students can undertake optional internship units. Internship positions vary depending on each student's discipline area, placement firm size and industry. Recent roles undertaken by internship students include software quality assurance, coordinator, IT support officer, network support officer, software development and various other management and IT roles in private and government sectors.
Major Areas of Study
Information Systems: Students gain the skills needed to design, develop, implement and manage information systems and also provides students with a realistic understanding of the roles of information technology in organizations.
Software Development: Students develop the skills needed to efficiently develop and maintain high-quality software systems and also provides students with the knowledge to participate in and manage software projects.
User experience: Gives students the skills needed to effectively and efficiently design and develop multimedia resources and interactive multimedia programs that support a great user experience. Students develop an ability to select and use multimedia resources that facilitate engagement and usability for users.
Additional majors: University-wide majors are also available in this course.
Unit availabilities are published for each study period and may vary from year to year. Sydney and Melbourne students can only study the Information Systems and Software Development majors.
Assessment methods
Assessment may be in the form of essays, reports, audio or video presentations, online quizzes, case analyses or problem resolutions, software programs and examinations.
Teaching methods
On-campus students experience a variety of teaching approaches including lectures, tutorials, online activities and video-linked or podcast virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
Our online study option is highly interactive and strives to promote collaboration and a sense of community. Students may receive a combination of a podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
