Introduction
Bachelor of Business in Tourism Management
GMIT Galway Campus
This award will prepare you for many of the business roles available in the tourism industry. You will develop skills appropriate to both operational and supervisory management levels. The programme will also develop entrepreneurial skills to facilitate new business start-ups, and in today’s economic climate, these skills will prove invaluable upon graduation. The integrated work placement in the second year, allows you to experience at first hand the challenges, demands, and rewards of working in this exciting and challenging industry.
Work Placements
After the second year examinations, students undertake a 30-week industrial placement, organized by the LINKS office in conjunction with the student. Irish and European students can complete their placement in Ireland or overseas, while non-EU students should complete their placement in Ireland. An industrial project must be completed in respect of this placement. If students are considering an international career, the school would encourage students to study an international language during the three years of study and to complete their international placement in a location that supports the development of the language.
International Links
The School has extensive international links with hotels, tourism organizations, and educational organizations. In addition, the school is an active member of various hotel school associations including the Association of European Hotel & Tourism schools (AEHT) and the Council for Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (CHRIE).
Follow-on Studies
Graduates may progress to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Hotel and Catering Management within the Hotel School. The school is currently developing a level 8 route for students from this programme - please contact the school for further updates.
