Introduction
The major in Mathematics Education prepares students to teach mathematics standards in grades eight through twelve. In addition to the curriculum requirements outlined, students pursuing this degree must meet the criteria for admission to the Teacher Education Program, Student Teaching, and the Kentucky and Alice Lloyd Teacher Standards. Upon completing this program, students must meet other specified Education Professional Standards Board requirements to secure certification.
Students in education must earn a 2.75 overall GPA in all coursework in order to graduate. Note also that in each of the following areas, a 2.75 overall GPA is required and no grade lower than “C”: professional education courses, all subject matter, and collateral courses.
Students should become familiar with their individual programs' requirements and work with their advisors to ensure that all degree requirements will be met. A guide sheet is extremely helpful in academic planning.
