The Human Services degree program of 132 credits is designed to prepare practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and values of the “helping process” directed at individuals, families, groups, communities, selected special populations, and social services support systems.

A bachelor’s degree in human services and addictions prepares you to be a helping professional who can serve a diverse group of clients in a wide range of settings and in various roles. In addition to developing skills to help clients individually and in small groups, you will learn about case management, human services administration, ethical issues in human services, and cultural competence. You will also select two elective courses from a variety of topics such as Death, Dying and Grief, Behavior Problems of Children and The Mindful Helping Professional. Courses are offered online and in hybrid format to accommodate the schedules of busy students.

The Human Services program is an interdisciplinary liberal arts degree that draws heavily from the disciplines of sociology and psychology. Our graduates gain the attitudes, values, knowledge, and skills for employment or advanced study in the art and science of care.

Clayton State’s baccalaureate (BS) program in Psychology and Human Services is firmly grounded in the discipline of psychology while at the same time stressing realistic career opportunities in human services fields for the bachelor’s degree graduate. The curriculum design allows students to integrate the disciplines of psychology, sociology, social services, youth services, health care, nonprofit management, multicultural studies, education, and business, into an academic and experiential program that will prepare graduates for vocations in diverse areas of the helping professions.
