In the Material Art & Design program, you will learn how to create jewellery, textiles and ceramics as a professional studio artist or designer. You’ll focus on making your own designs and will learn the critical and business skills you’ll need to succeed.

Northern's Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with studio art emphasis is designed to take you and your art to a professional level. The BFA in Studio Arts degree program prepares you to excel in highly technical areas of art, including: Painting, Drawing, Sculpture. It's the perfect gateway to attending graduate school for a master of fine arts degree (MFA) or doctorate in art education degree. With this professional degree, you can investigate visual and aesthetic discourse within your own artistic practice and in the context of history and contemporary culture. Because a BFA requires more art studio and art history courses, you'll engage with your discipline on a professional level, preparing you for careers in art fields or for graduate studies. You'll build a strong foundation in art technique and history and learn to research problems that require visual solutions. The studio art track is designed to prepare students for careers in the fine arts in areas such as drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, or printmaking. It may also serve as a foundation for graduate study in fine arts.

In the Sculpture/Installation program, you will experiment with creating three-dimensional sculpture and installation work. You will learn the skills to create installations – works of art designed for public spaces. You will use the fabrication studios to explore hands-on and digital creation.

At the end of this four-year program, you will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Students enrolled in sculpture are exposed to traditional approaches such as modeling, carving and constructing, as well as the possibilities of contemporary modes of three-dimensional expression.

Our trans-disciplinary curriculum is designed to prepare you for a future at the forefront of contemporary illustration.

In the 1st and 2nd years, you will acquire basic skills and learn various modeling techniques such as Japanese painting, Western painting, and 3D painting. At the same time, you can experience the practical place of social contribution in art through project-type lessons in collaboration with the local community. From the third year, you will decide your own field of specialization and take a curriculum that specializes in your specialty. In the field of theoretical regional culture creation, we also have a curriculum structure that does not take practical subjects, and develop human resources who connect art culture and society.

Students receive practical skills in watercolour and oil painting, academic drawing, composition, drawing, sculpture, study folk arts and crafts, arts and crafts and decorative arts, etc.

The Sculpture program at PAFA embraces contemporary and classical approaches across a broad range of art-making—from traditional figurative sculpture to video and installation art. Students receive hands-on training from PAFA’s talented sculpture faculty about tools, materials, and techniques of sculptural composition and fabrication, figure modeling and carving, bronze casting, woodcarving, welding, plaster casting, foundry, and site-specific sculpture.

Sculpture is a radically hybrid zone where traditional craft meets innovative tools, processes, and ideas about what a sculpture can be. Sculpture encourages you to investigate a wide spectrum of sculptural methods, including stand-alone objects, site-specific works, multiples, installations, sculptural interventions, performance, and any number of hybrid forms of three-dimensional engagement.

Life is three dimensional, and so is your art. In our 3D Studies program, you will study all aspects of three-dimensional media—from traditional practices like sculpture and ceramics to emerging technologies like installation and time-based art.
