The Recreation Management BS Degree's parks and outdoor recreation concentration explores the contribution of recreation and parks to public well-being and quality of life. This career-ready concentration includes coursework in natural resources management, outdoor recreation programming, and commercial and environmental education as well as supervised practicum and internship experiences. Graduates are prepared to qualify for application as Certified Park and Recreational Professionals and to take on professional roles in which they plan and implement community recreation and sports programs, services, and events; lead outdoor adventure activities; serve as experiential environmental educators; and manage commercial, natural, and cultural resources and their recreational uses.

The Outdoor Adventure Leadership degree is designed to prepare students for careers in a wide variety of leadership settings with hands-on learning activities. The program develops student’s skills in group dynamics, leadership principles, educational philosophy, as well as teaching and communication. This degree combines the study of educational and leadership theory and practice with technical outdoor travel and adventure.

The Outdoor Education major combines studying natural history, education methods and outdoor adventure. This program incorporates highly qualified faculty from many disciplines including: interpretation, environmental education, experiential education, physical education, biology, botany, geology and mass communications.

The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Administration for individuals who are committed to the recreation and leisure services profession. The major in Recreation Administration prepares students with the knowledge, understanding, ability, and skill necessary to successfully function in professional positions related to the major.

Outdoor Studies is an intensive humanities program that offers students the opportunity to develop skills and characteristics that are essential to success as a leader in outdoor and adventure settings and to better understand the human relationship to the natural world.
