The Bachelor’s degree in Dance provides a broad coverage of dance training, including dance technique, improvisational and choreographic skills, music for dancers, historical and cultural dimensions of dance, dance production, dance science, and theories of dance. The Dance Department provides students with the opportunity to prepare for a variety of dance careers, offering both a broad base of study and an opportunity for more intensive work in areas of specific interest.

Effective and efficient communication is at the center of a well-functioning organization and society. The dynamics of clear communication can be seen in all spaces of productive government, businesses, media, and nonprofit agencies. The Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies focuses on courses such as Persuasion (great preparation for law school), public speaking, advanced public speaking, and the dynamics of interpersonal communication. The program prepares students to communicate with a diverse population using effective communication skills and new media technologies.

The Bachelor’s degree in Art (with EC-12 Teacher Certification) trains students to become certified art teachers skilled in relevant studio techniques, artist processes, art curriculum design, and classroom strategies. The EC-12 program produces practicing artists who are trained to teach in a variety of settings including K-12, community arts, galleries, and museums. UTRGV is approved by the Texas Education Agency to recommend students who complete all requirements of this degree for teaching certification.

The Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology seeks to understand all dimensions of the human experience and our place in nature: who we are, where we come from, and how we understand the diversities and similarities among us. It introduces students to the major areas of biological anthropology, archaeology, sociocultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and applied anthropology along with advanced courses in several of those areas. Students choose from two program concentrations.

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics places students at the intersection of social policy and business. The program prepares students with a broad skillset and an understanding of factors that affect the economy. The program prepares aspiring economic professionals with communication, analytical, critical thinking, and business skills for the public and private sector.

The Bachelor’s degree in English cultivates scholarly and creative achievement and develops proficiency to read, write, and think critically. It offers students an opportunity to discover more about the world they live in, learn to appreciate artistic works, and develop enhanced literary and language aptitudes.

History is a multifaceted field, rich in knowledge of the past that helps society shape the present and future. The Bachelor’s degree in History introduces students to the past through different historical eras, diverse cultures, famous and ordinary women and men, and a variety of geographical settings.
