As the only stand alone department of philosophy at an HBCU, our department offers a pluralistic approach to philosophy unique in its ability to provide students with a comprehensive program of study in Africana Philosophy, as well as traditional areas of philosophy.

Welcome to the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies and its unique areas of learning concentrations. The Programmatic Interdisciplinary Major Concentrations in Interdisciplinary Studies lead to a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and prepares students to engage personally and professionally with unique integrations of multiple traditional disciplines which together create novel and needed new preparation for tomorrow’s life and careers.

Catholic University students choose the theology and religious studies major because they love to wrestle with ultimate questions and learn about how religious traditions inform the answers. For many, their studies are promoted by and in turn nourish their faith lives. Students are given a broad foundation in theology and religious studies through coursework and comprehensive exams. They are also provided an opportunity for intensive research in an area of their interest through their senior capstone seminar with its research paper.

Students in this first-of-its-kind primary explore the nature and political effects of our rapidly evolving media environment. They learn how mass media, the internet, and new information and communication technologies are changing how politics works in the United States and around the world.

Trinity’s criminal justice program focuses on the discipline within the broader concept of social justice in a multi-cultural, industrialized democracy. Students explore the historical, theoretical, and practical aspects of the discipline and are challenged to analyze current issues in the field.

BAU’s program in Data Science integrates scientific methods from statistics, computer science, and data-based business management to extract knowledge from data and drive decision making. The BA in Data Science curriculum provides students with rigorous applications and practices a pathway for student internships and full-time employment.

BAU’s Political Science & International Relations Program adopts a global vision to support research and teaching within a multi-cultural environment based on respect for human dignity, universal human rights and freedoms for all men and women regardless of race, color, creed or religion.

We live in an age of social conflict fueled by poverty, racism and other forms of inequality, but also by our knowledge that a better world is possible and our desires to make it so. Social theory and research provide us with powerful tools for critically analyzing, transforming, and overcoming conditions of oppression, exploitation and injustice. Our graduate and undergraduate programs give students training in the use of these tools and that prepare them for careers and lives in service to their communities and struggles for a better world.

Our psychology majors get one-on-one academic advising and stay in close touch with the faculty, and also benefit from our Psychology Peer Mentoring Program for incoming first-year students. Sections of our General Psychology classes are limited to only 35 students, and elective courses are typically no more than 40.

In our classrooms, computer labs, and broadcast studio, our faculty of award-winning journalists and academics teach students to report, produce and write for all media forms. Classes include database and multi-platform reporting, investigative journalism, and studio production. The curriculum also focuses on the role journalism and media play in civic and political life.

The Bachelor of Arts in Urban Sustainability offers students a broadly defined degree option at the bachelor’s degree level that indicates their interest in a career in the sustainable development, urban development, and environmental management field.

With a B.A. in Journalism and Media Studies, a student who sees herself as a non-fiction storyteller with a passion for educating and engaging an audience with words, sounds, and visuals, has a career in her future as a digital journalist, media manager, or communications specialist.

While the Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration of Justice, the program's name is Crime, Justice & Security Studies, sometimes referred to as Criminal Justice.

Through an ASL-immersion experience and resources such as our award-winning interactive laboratory, you will be prepared to work in a variety of settings. Our interpretation program is open to students who are deaf, hard of hearing and hearing. Gallaudet University is the only university in the world that offers both an undergraduate and a graduate degree in ASL-English Interpretation. Gallaudet provides a unique opportunity for interpretation majors to live, study, and interact with Deaf people from the United States and around the world.

The mission for BAU International University is to prepare community and information technology leaders through innovative, high-quality programs, initiatives and services directed to the needs of learners and employers. The program purpose is to educate, mentor, train and develop students that can manage and supervise using effective communication skills, knowledge of evolving technologies, efficient project planning and implementation techniques.
