The French program combines a rigorous emphasis on grammar and composition with a comprehensive exploration of French literature from the 14th Century to the present.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has been part of the University of Redlands campus for more than 50 years. The department offers a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Created in 2011, Media and Visual Culture Studies bring together faculty from across the campus who teach and research topics such as media theory, gender, and power in media, television, visual anthropology, and cultural representation. As in many programs at liberal arts colleges, students in MVC will learn from a range of faculty with different backgrounds, getting a broad, liberal education while also deepening their understanding of media and culture.

In the Race and Ethnic Studies (REST) department, we study the complex and often challenging issues of race, ethnicity, and racism from an interdisciplinary perspective. Faculty and students work closely to explore: How have race and racism shaped America from its foundation to today? How have social justice movements transformed the meaning of American democracy? How does race matter today in the age of Trump? Race and Ethnic Studies prepares our students to thrive in an increasingly diverse and global American society.

Psychology is one of the most important human sciences. It allows us to understand who we are and how our mind works.

The major consists of a minimum of 48 credits selected in consultation with one of the program committee members or a faculty member in one of the departments that contribute to the international relations major. No more than 50 percent of the required units for any particular component of the international relations major (i.e., political science, economics, history) can be satisfied through off-campus programs. Credits earned by international relations majors through the Washington Semester program are subject to this limitation.

The University of Redlands offers one of the first undergraduate majors in creative writing and is nationally recognized for the quality of its graduates. The program of study is unusually intensive, resembling a Master of Fine Arts curriculum rather than a typical undergraduate program because of the structure and demanding nature of the major, the high profile of our faculty, and the classroom practices we employ.

The German program provides students with a contemporary understanding of German culture and a fluid grasp of conversational and written German.

The Asian Studies program seeks to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of Asia's diverse cultures and contemporary social, political, business, and economic issues. The program emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach by combining the study of languages, humanities, and the social sciences. Such studies not only provide students with knowledge of Asia and Asian language skills but also help students to critically examine the values of their own societies or cultures.

The art department provides classes in drawing, painting, photography, graphic design, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. In 2010, the department moved into Ann Peppers Hall, a 25,000-square-foot facility with state-of-the-art studios, including digital labs for graphic design and digital photography, facilities for painting and printmaking, and a darkroom for black and white photography.

The English Department fosters students' love of literature through rigorous examination of texts, challenging discussion, thoughtful writing, and training in different theoretical approaches. Students explore the works of important writers in multiple genres from many countries and time periods, as well as the ideas, cultural values, and debates literature presents, supported by a faculty with diverse interdisciplinary interests.

Latin American Studies brings together knowledge from the humanities, (e.g., languages, literature, film studies, history), the social sciences (e.g., anthropology, sociology, political science, political geography, communication/language sciences), and environmental studies to allow students to build a foundation in the aesthetic, cultural, economic, environmental, geographical, historical, linguistic, political, and social contexts of Latin America.

The Public Policy major draws its theoretical foundations from a variety of disciplines including government, economics, and sociology. Majors are trained both in the ethics of public policy-making as well as in the diverse methodologies used in the field. Because public policy is an applied field, majors take a variety of courses in such diverse areas as environmental studies, race and ethnic studies, women's and gender studies, government, economics, and sociology. Students develop a concentration that allows them to develop substantial expertise in an area of public policy analysis.
