Political Science is the study of who has the power to make laws for society, the institutional structures that guide how this power is used, and the impact of public policies on society. Our graduates have gone on to serve in Congress, in the state legislature, as city managers, urban planners, city council members, lawyers and judges, mayors, union leaders, business owners, educators, non-profit managers, military officers, civic organizers, and more. The Department of Psychology's broad undergraduate curriculum prepares students for an array of career paths in the field of Psychology and related disciplines. Motivated students have a wealth of independent research opportunities with faculty members in the department. Exceptionally well-qualified students can participate in our senior honors program. These students design, conduct, and present an original research project as a senior thesis and regularly present their work at regional and national professional conferences.

The BA in Social Science provides students with an understanding of major theoretical perspectives in the social sciences with a focus on how the social environment, culture, inequalities, and policies shape individual experiences; knowledge about how to utilize social science concepts in the analysis of social phenomena; opportunities to develop critical thinking, written, and oral communication skills rooted in social science perspectives; an appreciation of socio-cultural diversity within and among societies; and applied quantitative and qualitative research skills.

The profession of social work is dedicated to meeting the diverse social service needs of special populations of individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. As a practice-oriented profession, social work deals with social concerns that range from societal oppression to people's emotional/behavioral problems.

Sociology is the scientific study of human social life. Sociologists seek to describe and explain patterns of human activity. Some sociologists study small groups, while others study organizations, institutions, or entire societies. The findings from sociological research often challenge common-sense explanations. The goal of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures is to encourage multiculturalism and multilingualism in the Central Valley. That includes preparing students for communication in some of the important heritage languages of the area: Spanish. It's also the language of Mexico, Central and South America, and the European Union, so students are able to travel or work overseas with greater ease.

The biblical and theological studies program will help you discern and prepare for the call to serve God and the church and to deepen your knowledge of Scripture and ministry.

To help others we must first understand why they believe and behave the way they do. As a psychology major at Fresno Pacific University, you’ll learn to think in new ways as you examine people from scientific, religious, philosophical, physiological and socio-cultural perspectives.

The Department of Music provides undergraduate instruction in music for those planning professional careers as performers, composers, and studio teachers, as well as those preparing for advanced degrees in performance and composition. It also provides State-approved subject matter preparation required for a single-subject California teaching credential in music, and graduate instruction for students planning professional and academic careers or seeking professional growth as K 12 teachers or junior college instructors.

The Prelaw Option emphasizes critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as ethics and issues related to law. It also includes law-related intern experience. Law schools do not prefer any specific major but emphasize critical thinking and general education. Students with a strong interest in philosophy, as well as law, may find this option valuable. Depending upon the interests of the student, courses or minors in political science, business, criminology, and a variety of social sciences would be useful electives for the Prelaw Option.

The Department of Art, Design and Art History offers many exciting and creative opportunities for students to nurture and expand their artistic and design senses. Entering the 21st century, the department provides a broad range of experiences that prepare its graduates for art- and design-related career opportunities and artistic endeavors. Students study and produce works that include state-of-the-art computer applications, conceptual art, graphic design, and interior design. The department has fine arts as its core and foundation while offering areas of study that allow for occupational preparation in a variety of areas. The award-winning faculty is committed to the idea that a foundation in the crafts of art and design is an essential prerequisite to the production of works that show sophistication both conceptually and visually.

Bible Colleges such as California Christian College exist for the primary purpose of preparing individuals for ministry in Church-based vocations such as pastors, evangelists, missionaries, Christian education directors, youth ministers, and similar church-related functions. The division of Christian ministries strives to provide students the foundation they need to serve in these capacities. Students who complete the Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry will be prepared either to enter directly into the ministry of their calling or to continue their education in graduate school.
