Our unique academic program lets our students engage with exciting new trends in various creative disciplines, popular visual cultures, and cutting-edge design technologies. They begin with a foundation year where students have the opportunity to experience all of our visual disciplines: Graphic Design, Photography, Art Direction, Illustration, and Multimedia, before choosing a major visual subject to take through to their third year. This allows for a unique understanding of visual communication as well as an opportunity for our students to truly curate their learning according to their avenues of talent and interest. We combine this practice with subjects like Marketing, Business Leadership, Discourse, and Visual Studies, ensuring our students are at the forefront of an industry that is constantly evolving. The five majors (Applied Illustration, Art Direction, Graphic Design, Multimedia & Photography) focus on creative and industry-related practical knowledge and skills, with the remaining three components delivering vital context and theory that set our graduates apart in the South African job market.

The AFDA Postgraduate school is focused on developing innovative research, origination, production, and distribution of entertainment concepts for both local and international markets. Over the last fifteen years, the AFDA Postgraduate School has produced a large network of graduates who have made a significant contribution to the South African entertainment industry. A large percentage of commercials, feature films, television series, music, and retail content is produced by AFDA Honours graduates.

The Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics and Law (PPL) is a coordinated programme of study culminating in the award of a BA (Philosophy, Politics and Law) degree. It offers a structured, yet flexible, programme with a focus on Philosophy and either Law or Politics or both.

The primary purpose of this qualification is to develop students to become community development leaders in the facilitation of processes, techniques, and principles in the initiation, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and sustainment of developmental projects and programs, based on people-centered, asset-based participatory theoretical approaches to address inequality, poverty, and injustice.

Media, Culture, and communication degrees aim to prepare students for work in media-related industries, and train them to critically analyze the ways in which the media reflects, represents, and influences the world.

Our one year intensive Honours degree offers you the opportunity to produce a self-directed body of creative practice work majoring in Photography, Illustration, Graphic Design, Multimedia, or Art Direction. In addition to Creative Practice, your degree also includes Visual Studies and Contextual Studies.

The AFDA Bachelor of Arts in Motion Picture Medium is renowned for providing students with a rigorous, well-rounded, comprehensive education in motion picture production. The program is designed to equip students with the necessary conceptual, practical, and contextual skills to produce multiple forms of film, TV, stage, and emerging media content. What defines the program and sets it apart is its experiential approach to learning, allowing graduates to thrive in the creative economy of the 21st century.

This degree introduces students to the process of independent qualitative research. Students learn how to put together their research questions and proposals, understand how to construct a literature review as the basis for good, theoretically-informed research, train in how to conduct ethnographic research, and how to write up that research into an essay form.

The purpose of the Bachelor of Arts Honours in Geography is to provide advanced academic and research training in Geography, which will equip students to proceed with a Master’s degree in any of the structured professional fields of Geography, including: Water related issues- e.g. water managers, water scientists; Climatology and meteorology; Planning departments- e.g. in Municipalities; Policy development; Tourism industries and conservation; Educators, and Administrators.

Lyceums Faculty of Humanities is at the forefront of training and education in the field of public safety. The role that disaster and safety management plays in society cannot be underestimated.

Our Peace Studies programme aims to equip graduates in the field to approach the challenges of conflict prevention, resolution, peace-building and peace-keeping in an intellectually rigorous, theoretically well-grounded and empirically richly informed.

The BA Honours in Theology can be completed in one year but sometimes extends over two or more years. The programme requires a total of 130 credits. The programme is designed to give pastors, missionaries, and Christian workers an opportunity to do postgraduate work with a view to proceeding to a Masters Degree programme.

Multimedia Design at GDC is concerned primarily with interactive design and motion graphics.

This degree will shape your creative mind. You’ll learn how to apply different techniques and methods to a problem in order to come up with a big idea and ultimately, a winning creative solution.

The aim of this programme is to equip students with a Christian, interdisciplinary approach to engaging real-world crises and opportunities. With an emphasis on skillful biblical interpretation and theological understanding, students engage a broad set of contextual issues facing South Africa today and develop an integrative response (drawing from psychological, theological and sociological perspectives). A sense of personal vocation is therefore nurtured, with an emphasis on practical application.
