Throughout the history of cinema, Rome has enticed filmmakers, featuring as the backdrop – and sometimes the starring character – of countless iconic productions, from epic dramas to romantic comedies to documentaries. AUR’s Film program is unique in being the only degree program of its kind to be taught in English and based in Italy, with the added bonus of having its seat in a city so important to the subject.

The Bachelor of Arts in English Writing, Literature, and Publishing emphasizes literary history and creative writing, while providing students with critical thinking skills and an introduction to the world of publishing. Whether students plan to pursue a career as a creative or professional writer or pursue graduate work in literary studies, the EWLP Program will be a springboard to future study or a career in the arts or communication fields.

The curriculum for AUR’s Interdisciplinary Studies degree leaves ample room for personal variation so that students, in conjunction with their academic advisor can tailor their studies to their own particular interests. This program is recommended for students whose interests do not fall under a single conventional academic heading.

AUR’s BA in Communication Digital Media offers a mix of theoretical foundations and practical know-how for you to thrive in the global communications industry, from social media to PR, online journalism, and advertising.

The Archaeology and Classics program at The American University of Rome presents students with the unique opportunity to combine their studies with the source material: the city itself. A rigorous academic program is paired with hands-on learning through participation in excavations and unprecedented access to Rome’s ancient sites and artefacts. Few other courses in this field allow students such intimate interaction with their subject.

"Global Humanities" is an undergraduate degree program entirely taught in English that combines applied teaching methodologies with participatory learning in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences. The program explores histories, cultures, philosophies, critical theories, politics, and arts through courses in History, Anthropology, Literature, Media, Law, Human Rights, Migrations, Gender and Society, Psychology, Public Health, and more.
