PolyU climbs to 66th in the QS World University Ranking 2022 and 55th in Linguistics in QS World University Ranking by Subject 2022. This BA programme aims to nurture students to become competent English language professionals and responsible global citizens in the 21st century. Fresh graduates find employment in media and journalism, retail, human resources, public relations, marketing and advertising, publishing, education, and the civil service, where a high level of competence in English and professional communication is needed.

Our programme therefore places a strong emphasis on understanding the dynamics of cities and systems of cities; and the way public policy, urban management and design interventions interact positively and negatively with the spontaneous social and economic processes that make up city life. We place importance on research, applied statistical analysis, observation and communication, and introduce you to theories and methods, design thinking and design skills during the four years of study.

The BA (Hons) Scheme in Design equips students with the skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary to become the designers of tomorrow. The Scheme emphasises the integration of design and its relevance to society, the needs of a changing world, digital readiness and technological integration with the digital world, the growing need for design entrepreneurship and innovation, and the need for future designers to possess inter-disciplinary capabilities.

The four-year Bachelor of Arts in Conservation Degree [the BA(Conservation)] was launched in 2012 to meet the growing professional need for graduates with an understanding in heritage conservation. The programme provides students with the competency to pursue careers in numerous related fields, as well as a solid foundation for continuing their studies in specialised postgraduate programmes in conservation and complementary academic disciplines. The analytical skills developed in the programme and the multidisciplinary nature of the curriculum prepare students for a successful career in many professional fields, whether in the civil service, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) or private practice.

The Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Studies [BA(LS)] is an internationally recognised undergraduate degree offered by the Division of Landscape Architecture. Our programme delivers a broadly comprehensive education in the landscape architecture discipline. We teach the knowledge, concepts and skills required to respond creatively, professionally and ethically to the urgent social and environmental challenges faced by our cities and regions today. Students graduating from our BA(LS) programme may continue their studies in the professionally-accredited Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) programme at HKU, or apply for study in some of the world’s top postgraduate programmes.

The overall aim of the programme is to train competent professionals for the fashion business, equipping them to work in textiles, apparel, retailing, design, and related organisations. Graduates play an active role in the development of the global fashion and textiles industry in local and overseas markets. In addition to cultivating students’ professional competencies, the programme enhances their other essential competencies, such as entrepreneurship, social media marketing, and business analytics. This expands graduates’ skillsets to meet the needs of today’s business environment.

Students will be awarded the following award upon successful completion of the graduation requirements: BA (Hons) in Linguistics and Translation. The option of Secondary Major in AI and Data Analysis is available to the students of BA (Hons) in Linguistics and Translation. Admission to the Secondary Major is on a competitive basis and subject to different credit requirements for graduation.

The BASc(Design+) is aimed at nurturing highly effective, adaptive and creative graduates who can lead across multiple disciplinary subjects, and who will become known globally for their distinctive qualities of creativity, analytical ability, critical thinking and innovative problem-solving. Cutting across traditional disciplinary boundaries, the programme is structured around design thinking as a distinct foundational approach to interdisciplinary studies, innovation and enterprise.

We prepare our students to be professionally competent, versatile, adaptive and reflective, helping them to meet the fast-changing needs of society. The programme curriculum is designed to cultivate students’ humanistic values and equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to become competent human service professionals in their chosen fields. Through wide exposure to different domains of knowledge and interdisciplinary issues, students are able to think from different perspectives and solve complex problems in real-life situations.
