The Academy of Art University’s School of Art History BA program is a unique major that addresses the traditional art historical study through the analysis of visual culture from antiquity to the present. Complemented with fine art studio coursework (12 units), the BA allows for students to engage in critical and research-based analysis of art and architecture, learning to study the visual culture through its role and influence on different cultures and periods. With internationally recognized faculty and access to a rich offering of coursework, the AAU’s Art History BA prepares students for a career in art-related fields: e.g. in art galleries, museums, foundations, archiving, publishing, and public arts administration.

An Art History graduate can look forward to a career in museum curation, art advising, art law and enforcement, corporate consulting, appraising and more. Art History students study the history of the visual arts in their cultural and social context. Our faculty strives to foster collaborative learning and encourage development in both art theory and artistic practice. With four different concentrations, our students prepare for further study at the graduate level, and the demands of a workforce requiring exceptional, creative problem-solving skills. Our Visiting Artist series, as well as the regular exhibitions of renowned artists in our various galleries, expose students to current trends in regional, national, and international art.

Students will learn to analyze, conceptualize and create video games and related components, such as animation, audio, non-linear stories, software interfaces, and user experience. All students complete courses in media theory, basic computer coding languages, visual art and design, and general education courses. They will choose an emphasis on visual design, audio design, narrative design, or a combination of the three. Culminating in a multi-disciplinary, year-long project, the degree will equip students with the skills, theoretical framework, and experience necessary to enter the gaming industry or pursue work in the related interactive media fields.

The art history program acquaints students with the visual culture of humankind through the ages — works of art as individual organizations of shape, space and color and as cultural artifacts with a history and function within their societies linked to other forms of cultural production.

This track/ concentration encompasses all things related to community and social innovation, social change, and the role of arts in these fields, by prioritizing the use of non-formal teaching methods, developing the lifelong learner, and providing experiential learning opportunities.

As an art history major at Mason, you'll investigate works of art to learn about how and why they were made, and about the people who made them. You'll study art as a form of personal expression and a record of its historical moment by understanding not only the artwork's aesthetic qualities, but also the way art influences and is influenced by culture, technology, and economics. The expertise of our faculty extends to many world regions – the United States, Latin America, Europe, the Mediterranean, South and Southeast Asia, China, and the Islamic world – and overall historical periods. This major has flexible requirements and you will receive individualized attention to help you adapt your art history studies to your interests.

Studio Angelico is Siena Heights University’s nationally accredited art department, offering degrees in Graphic Design, Art History, and Fine Arts. As part of these degrees, you can explore art media such as animation, ceramics, drawing, graphic design, metalsmithing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, video editing, and web design. In addition, opportunities are available for you to combine your art degree with various other majors, minors, and certifications in areas such as business, psychology, chemistry, museum studies, and teacher education, which will help you prepare for careers in such fields as advertising, art therapy, art conservation, museum work, and art education.

Unleash your creative vision and hone your artistic abilities in Northern's fine art program, in which you'll develop advanced visual design skills and be trained to master the use of traditional studio media and tools. We have the resources you need to study art history, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, painting, drawing, design and mixed media. All classes are taught by caring, supportive professors and instructors, and our fully equipped facilities include upgrades for health and safety. Northern has one of the nicest art studios in the region, and seniors have the opportunity to work in a private studio. Student work can be showcased in one of three galleries located in modern and historic campus spaces.
