Introduction
The Management Social Work (BA) course is an accredited, state-recognized course offered by the NBS Northern Business School Hochschule für Management und Sicherheit in Hamburg.
TRAINING OR PART-TIME STUDIES IN HAMBURG
This course is offered at the NBS on a part-time basis on Friday evenings and Saturdays for employees and trainees. This makes it possible to acquire an accredited and state-recognized university degree part-time within 8 semesters. The degree concludes with a Bachelor of Arts (BA).
The study content
The bachelor’s degree in Management Social Work, which accompanies your job and training, prepares you in an application-oriented manner for the special requirements in the fields of social work and provides you with solid training in the methodology of scientific work. You will acquire social science and business expertise as well as an understanding of interdisciplinary issues. By imparting key qualifications, you will be able to analyze problems, develop ethically and legally sound solutions and put them into practice.
Graduates of the Management Social Work course take on responsible and managerial positions in public and private organizations. They are scientifically and practically trained specialists who are able to develop, implement and evaluate dynamic and complex processes. Dealing with people and coordinating sensitive work processes require special social skills. Technical knowledge, organizational skills and an independent way of working are therefore just as essential as communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
The course is part-time on Friday evenings and Saturdays. The course is made up of three complementary disciplines : The focus of the course is teaching the basics and aspects of social work that are relevant to practice. These include the history and theory of social work, professional ethics, social policy and action plans. At the same time, you will be trained in the economic factors of social work, such as controlling and personnel management. In the third module, the methodology and basics of scientific work are taught and tried out in practice.
The career options
Social work is a practice-oriented professional field that analyses, supports and promotes social development. It deals with the resolution of conflicts and the care and support of people. Social justice, human rights and social responsibility are central aspects. The degree in Management Social Work enables you to take up work in fields such as family support, care for the elderly, addiction counselling, migration work, adult and youth education or youth work, but also in a wide variety of institutions, for example in clinics, youth clubs, children's homes, advice centers and retirement homes.
The course was designed in coordination with the SBB Foundation for Vocational Training in order to ensure the professional suitability of the graduates. The employability of the students is also further promoted during their studies through the integrated seminar program.
State recognition for social pedagogues and social workers
Graduates who complete a social internship of more than 100 working days as part of their studies at the NBS may, in addition to their Bachelor of Arts, bear the professional title "state-approved social pedagogue and social worker". State recognition is a central qualification for social workers in Germany and enables access to jobs in many social institutions.
