Are you looking for a solid preparation for advanced study in philosophy, a background for a particular profession or vocation, to move onto graduate school, or for preparation as a philosophy teacher? Philosophy is the attempt to make rational sense of all things. As such, it tries to discover and explain the ultimate origin, purpose, and meaning of everything, especially human existence. For this reason, philosophy is one of life’s most practical pursuits. -

Politics, philosophy and economics (PPE) are central to understanding how modern societies are organised and governed. By studying them together you'll gain a combination of skills that’s in high demand across the private, public and non-profit sectors. Whilst PPE has been described as ‘the degree that runs Britain’, this combination is better viewed as the study of how countries are run, what motivates and constrains their rulers and residents, and how social order and prosperity are best understood and promoted. All three disciplines are presented in up-to-date form, covering alternative as well as ‘mainstream’ approaches and firmly rooted in the real world. -

The Philosophy program acquaints students with the history of philosophy, the world’s great philosophers, and basic schools of thought. Our program pursues such classic questions in the field as: What does it take to have knowledge? What is truth? What is the source of value? What is reality? What is the source of political authority? Philosophy is a subject that seeks an understanding of ultimate questions about the nature of reality, knowledge, and values. It engages reflective, critical reasoning and dialogue. The philosophy major at Asbury has an emphasis on the formation of a Christian worldview and a broad understanding of other views. An undergraduate major in philosophy serves as an excellent basis for graduate work in philosophical, theological, or divinity programs as well as other academic and professional programs. As a second major, it expands critical engagement with the first major and equips students with key analytical skills. Some career options open to philosophy majors include law, medicine, business, politics, government service, computer science, journalism, and writing. -
