Curriculum
MAJOR IN PSYCHOLOGY
A Major in Psychology requires that a student completes the three core courses in Psychology (1000/2000/3000), as well as Psy 1050 and a course in Statistics (2750). A grade of C or better in each course of this discipline is required for the major. If the mark is lower the course can still count toward the total credit hours, but not the major. In addition, the student is required to take seven upper-level Psychology electives (21 credit hours), which must include a minimum of six credit hours in other social sciences. These credit hours must also include at least one seminar course (usually Research Methods 4750) and may include a thesis. However, only three credit hours from a thesis may be included toward the total of 21 credit hours of required upper-level electives. Throughout their degree program, Psychology students are required to take at least two of the three core courses for three of the four core Humanities subjects as well *NOTE: Students taking the Psychology major may be required to take two or three online courses available through SSU, UNB or UM (Maine) over the course of their program and/or courses made available through hybrid courses scheduled in May or August.
MINOR IN PSYCHOLOGY
A minor is available for all students who complete the core courses plus 18 credit hours in upper-level Psychology and Social Science courses. Statistics are not required. A grade of C or better in each course of this discipline is required for the minor. If the mark is lower the course can still count toward the total credit hours, but not the minor. Throughout their degree program, Psychology students are required to take at least two of the three core courses for three of the four core Humanities subjects as well.
