Bachelor in Tourism Retail and Marketing Management
The IFT's BA Tourism Retail and Marketing Management is a programme designed with the modern hospitality professional in mind. The programme includes more than 40 courses, an internship (third year) and thesis writing. Following courses are on the list inter alia:
Principles of Retail
This course introduces students to essential retailing concepts such as determination of target market, location analysis, store layout and organization, staffing, planning, merchandizing and pricing techniques, customer service policies, sales skills and store operations. The knowledge will be useful for starting retail businesses or managing retail operations.
Retail and Marketing Business Project
This is a capstone course that requires students to apply the theories they have learnt about retail and marketing management in the creation or revitalization of a retail business or brand. The students will be able to develop analytical thinking and team spirit.
Seminar in Retail and Marketing
This course alerts students to the latest development and trends in retail and marketing management. Students are encouraged to integrate the theories they have learned in previous courses and examine them in changing business contexts. Invited speakers will enlighten students on some realistic aspects of retail and marketing that are not covered in textbooks. The seminar series aim to cultivate critical and analytical thinking and encourage students to keep abreast of new trends and issues.
The aim of the 6-month undergraduate internship programme is to provide students the opportunity to:
- Develop skills and competencies for the diversity of occupations and professions in the hospitality and tourism industries and to further explore career directions.
Enhance the knowledge they attained in their academic coursework via practice and real-life application of the concepts and principles they have mastered. Networking with professionals, executives, and members of the industry, allowing students to develop professional partnerships and industry connections. Engage in self-learning and pursue topics of interests that can be the subject for their future personal studies. Gain actual work experience and enable them to be functionally ready and effective in their future employment. Explore and carry out entrepreneurial and other creative initiatives.
