Introduction
A Bachelor's Degree Program in English Language and Literature is a 240 ECTS Credits, 4-year program. The program meets the requirements by both the ECTS credits and level descriptors of the first cycle degree qualifications of the Overarching Framework of European Qualifications Framework HE(QF-EHEA) and the 6th level qualifications of the Turkish Qualifications Framework for HE (TYYÇ, NQF-HETR). The level descriptors also meet the 6th level requirements of the qualifications of the European Qualifications Framework for Lifelong Learning (EQF-LLL).
Upon successful completion of this program, students are awarded the qualification of a Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature.
Mission
- To develop students' knowledge of English Language and Literature and American Literature with a contemporary, critical and theoretical approach,
- To provide students with an interdisciplinary perspective, and to strengthen their critical reading, writing, and thinking skills acquired within the field,
- To provide students with the knowledge of different areas of the social sciences and to educate well-equipped and ethical individuals that can be useful to society.
Aims
- To provide students with critical reading, writing, and thinking skills required for success in both the academic and the business world.
- To enrich their knowledge in literature, language, art, history, and cultural studies through a contemporary critical and interdisciplinary approach.
- To provide them with the skills to use proper analysis and modeling methods to conduct research and prepare reports.
Objectives
- To develop students’ knowledge of English Literature and Language through a contemporary critical and theoretical approach.
- To improve their critical reading, writing, and thinking skills by promoting interdisciplinary interaction.
- To equip students with knowledge from various fields of humanities in order to educate individuals that act with integrity and are beneficial to society.

Program Outcome
Upon successful completion of the program designed in accordance with the aims and objectives of the program and the program learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills, and competencies given below, students/learners will be able to:
Knowledge
- Acquire historical, theoretical, and practical knowledge of the English language and literature, supplemented by course books, materials, and other sources that contain current information in the field.
- Gain in-depth knowledge of a wide range of authors, movements, and texts from different periods of literary history.
- Have theoretical and practical knowledge of the systematical structure, functioning, and evolution of the language.
- Explain different structures and discourse functions of the selected works from English literature.
- Acquire general knowledge of American culture, literature, and history and define key terms and concepts.
- Acquire knowledge of another European language and Discuss the intellectual, cultural, and historical contexts in which literature is written and read.
Skills
- Critically interpret English and American literary, cultural, and social life.
- Critically analyze literary texts produced in the Renaissance and other historical periods. Make an in-depth analysis of mythology, Classic, and Neo-Classic art insights.
- Reflect on ethical, psychological, and philosophical and issues in literary, cultural, and historical texts.
- Apply literary, critical, historical, linguistic, and approaches to textual analysis
- Apply guided research skills including the ability to gather, sift, organize and present information and material.
- Use logical thought, critical reasoning, and rhetorical skills to effectively construct arguments.
- Gain skills to understand and interpret a system, process, equipment, or product and to solve relevant issues applying contemporary methods.

We are confident that the graduates of the Department of English Language and Literature will have an exceptionally good record in job placement as scholars at colleges or other schools, as employees in international business and international relations, etc. Due to their independent perspective and critical thinking, they become entitled to move on to professions indirectly related to English Language and Literature such as journalism and mass media, tourism, or government services.
