Introduction
The curriculum of the English Language and Literature Department includes the study of mythology, British society and culture, and literary genres and periods ranging from Old and Middle English to the eighteenth, nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. It also covers postcolonial studies and literary theory. The Department’s program is designed around critical reading, writing, and thinking. Students learn to read critically, to write clearly and persuasively, to express themselves and communicate at an academic level in English, and to develop intellectually; elective courses allow them to broaden their academic and cultural horizons.
