In a time where the Computing and IT industry is exponentially expanding and becoming an ever-advancing tool in both individuals’ and business’s day-to-day operation, it is crucial for today’s computer science graduates to be well-informed and best-placed to understand and solve the issues affecting contemporary computing systems, but to also utilise these systems to enhance organisational performance.
This Top-Up degree develops students’ skills and knowledge on computing processes and its management. The programme exposes students to a variety of contemporary topics and issues faced by the industry, equipping graduates of this course with a range high-quality skills and competencies to excel in a number of roles.
The programme has been designed to develop the computing and/or management skills of students with prior qualifications gained from either a Foundation Degree or HND. As well as enhancing students’ skills and knowledge on a variety of computing systems and contemporary issues for the industry, the programme’s Case Project streamlines the skills gained in the wider course into a demonstrable and tangible project, as desired by employers.
The programme is made up of a set of modules designed to give students the high-caliber knowledge and skills this expanding industry demands. Each module requires some element of practical work in our computer laboratories where students will master various software and programmes. From Object-Oriented and Web Programming to Project Management & Professional Development, our modules provide students’ with the transferable skills and confidence to secure a variety of roles in one of the fastest growing industries.
A degree in Applied Computing can lead to a very rewarding career in the computing and IT industry for a number of organizations spanning every sector. The Top-Up degree leaves students well-placed to pursue a wide-range of roles in systems and application development, computer programming or project management, to name a few.
Upon successful completion of this course, with a minimum of a 2:2 degree, you will also be able to further your studies with the option to progress on to our MSc Cyber Security. Alternatively, you may choose to apply to study our MSc Web and Mobile Development Technologies programme that is taught on a part-time basis.
Who would this Course suit
The programme has been designed for students who wish to upgrade their existing qualification into an undergraduate degree in computing and pursue a career in the growing and exciting industry of computing and IT.
- A HND/Foundation Degree in a related discipline.
- Students are also expected to have GCSE Maths and English Language at grade C or above, or equivalent.
- Students require IELTS 6.5 (or above) with no single element below 5.5 or equivalent.
If you have IELTS 5.5 – 6.0, you may be eligible to join our Pre-Sessional English before starting this programme.
